(PN) The National Petroleum Agency (ANP) authorized the sale of Polo Carmopolis, a Petrobras asset located in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, to Carmo Energy (a company of the Spanish group Cobra).
According to the ANP decision, Carmo Energy must present a financial guarantee or a term guaranteeing the decommissioning of the fields involved. The agency also demanded that Petrobras immediately start work on the permanent abandonment of all the wells it drilled outside the area around the cluster (ring fence).
The set of fields in Carmopolis was sold by the state-owned company in December last year for US$ 1.1 billion, and comprises 11 onshore fields located in the state of Sergipe.
The Cobra group already operates in the exploration, production and sale of oil and natural gas from onshore fields in other Latin American countries, such as Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador. With Carmopolis, the company officially enters the oil and gas sector in Brazil. The company has been operating in the country for over 20 years, working in sectors such as electricity transmission and power generation.
