Equinor to drill well in Bacalhau and starts importing gas to the Peregrino operations

(PN) The company’s president in the country, Veronica Coelho, announced the forecast to start drilling a well in Bacalhau, in the Santos Basin. According to the executive, the activity should start between the end of September and the beginning of October.

Veronica also said that there is an estimate of using a second rig in the field, in 2023, to drill an appraisal well in the northern area of Bacalhau. Equinor recently received a license renewal from Ibama, authorizing the Norwegian oil company to carry out short-term drilling and testing activities in the field.

Also Equinor started importing gas to the Peregrino field, in the Campos Basin. The energy source is being delivered to the field through Petrobras’ Rota 2 gas pipeline.

Equinor said it has made a number of modernizations at Peregrino to lower the carbon intensity. “With these new improvements, the reductions in emission intensity from the field will be quite significant,” said Veronica.

When Phase 2 of Peregrino is in operation, the expectation is that the import of natural gas will avoid 100 thousand tons of CO2 emissions from the field per year. “We will have an 80% reduction in diesel consumption and we expect that each barrel of oil produced by Peregrino now emits 50% less CO2”, concluded the company’s president.
