Brazil’s federal police said on Tuesday they had arrested two people and raided properties over alleged corruption at building firm Queiroz Galvao, widening a sweeping investigation focused on state-run oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA.
“Operation Carwash” was launched two years ago to tackle price fixing, bribery and political kickbacks at Petrobras. It has led to dozens of convictions for bribery and money-laundering, and several top politicians are being investigated.
Police were carrying out a third arrest warrant, said a police spokesman who declined to name the people who were arrested but confirmed the move was part of Operation Carwash.
Local media have reported that those arrested were Queiroz Galvao executives who were caught on video trying to derail a congressional inquiry into corruption at Petrobras years earlier.
Queiroz Galvao press office could not be immediately reached for comment.
