Exxon set to drill exploration well in Trinidad after completing seismic program, minister says

Oct. 21 (msn.com) ExxonMobil (XOM) is nearing completion of its seismic data acquisition program offshore Trinidad and Tobago, marking a key milestone in the company’s first year of exploration activities under its production sharing contract, and is expected to drill an exploration well in 2028, Energy Minister Roodal Moonilal said Tuesday.

With the seismic campaign nearing completion, Exxon will enter the next phase of processing and interpreting seismic data to identify potential drilling targets within the ultra-deepwater block, Moonlial said, adding the company has already issued requests for proposals to Trinidad and Tobago companies for permitting and environmental compliance services related to potential drilling operations.

Exxon is the operator of the TTUD-1 block, while Occidental Petroleum owns a 10% participating interest following a farm-in agreement.

TTUD-1 covers 7,165 sq km off Trinidad’s east coast in water depths exceeding 2K meters, and the acreage has attracted interest due to geological similarities with major deepwater petroleum areas including the Guyana-Suriname Basin and ultra-deepwater areas offshore Nigeria.
