April 15 (oilnow.gy) The first subsea equipment for the GranMorgu offshore oil development has arrived in Suriname, as the project moves toward offshore installation.
Block 58 operator TotalEnergies EP Suriname confirmed on April 14 that components of the long baseline (LBL) subsea positioning system were delivered at the end of March to the Dr. Jules Sedney Terminal in Paramaribo.
“The first equipment arrival in Suriname marks an important step forward as we move from project preparation to offshore execution,” said Artur Nunes da Silva, General Manager of TotalEnergies EP Suriname.
The LBL system is an underwater acoustic positioning technology used to determine the precise location of subsea equipment and vessels on the seabed. It plays a critical role during offshore installation campaigns, particularly in deepwater environments, where accuracy is essential for placing infrastructure.
The milestone comes approximately 18 months after TotalEnergies and APA Corporation took a final investment decision (FID) on the GranMorgu project in October 2024.
Since then, the project has progressed through key contracting stages, including the award of the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel to the joint venture of SBM Offshore and Technip Energies. Additional offshore works, including installation activities, are expected to be carried out with contractors such as Saipem as the development progresses toward its next phase.
Offshore installation activities are expected to begin in June 2026, representing the first such campaign for a major deepwater oil development in the country.
