Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras informs that, in alignment with its ongoing contingency assessment process, it signed an agreement today in the scope of the three public civil actions investigating environmental damage resulting from the leakage of the Santa Catarina – Paraná (OSPAR) oil pipeline, which occurred on July 16, 2000, in the city of Araucária, in the state of Paraná.
The amount of the agreement is R$ 1.4 billion, to be paid in four quarterly installments, as from its signature and subsequent judicial homologation. The effectiveness of the agreement is subject to ratification by the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region.
The public civil actions are classified as probable loss in the financial statements for the 2nd quarter of 2021, and are included in the provisions for legal proceedings of an environmental nature, note 14.1.
The company stresses that the signing of this agreement does not imply, on the part of Petrobras, a confession or legal acknowledgement of the alleged damages, nor of the practice of illicit conduct, referring only to compliance with the agreed-upon actions.
