Onshore exploration in Brazil has taken a new step. Imetame Energia declared the commerciality of the Campainha Azul field, located within the POT-T-569 block, in the Potiguar Basin. The asset is in the state of Rio de Grande do Norte and was acquired during the 11th Bidding Round.
The field is operated 100% by Imetame. The company had already notified the presence of evidence of hydrocarbons in the area in 2018, during an exploratory campaign carried out with the Imetame Energia 1 rig.
The year has been difficult, in general, for the oil and gas sector in Brazil and the world. However, despite the obstacles, the onshore sector has achieved some important advances in 2020. As we reported, the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) recently approved incentives for small and medium-sized companies that operate in oil exploration, development and production and natural gas.
The agency endorsed a resolution for the ANP to evaluate the adoption of measures, aiming at reducing royalties to up to 5%, for fields granted to smaller companies. The measure will especially benefit oil companies that operate onshore assets with small production.
