About four months after starting drilling in block S-M-623, where the Sagitario prospect is located, Petrobras made its first notification of oil evidence in the area. The discovery took place at well 3-BRSA-1370-SPS, at 1,841 meter water depth, which is being drilled with the ODN I rig.
The resumption of exploratory activity in the region was previously revealed by Repsol, Petrobras’ partner in the venture. In 2014, the Brazilian state-owned company completed the Sagitario formation test, which indicated the good productivity of the discovery, with 159 meters of good quality pre-salt oil reservoirs (32º API).
Petrobras even expressed its interest in preferring to be the operator of the southwest block of Sagitario, which was auctioned in the 6th Sharing Round last November. However, the state-owned company gave up bidding for the area, which was not acquired by any other company.
