Chevron has begun licensing an exploratory well for the S-M-764 block area in the Santos Basin pre-salt. The company indicated to IBAMA that, depending on the result of the first well, it can drill a second well in the area, bought in the 15th round of the ANP, held in the past.
The block S-M-764 is at a distance of 270 km from the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro (in relation to the municipality of Arraial do Cabo) and water depths of 2,750m deep. Chevron intends to use Porto do Açu to carry out the drilling campaign.
Chevron is the block operator with 40% stake and has as partners in the project Wintershall DEA (20%) and Repsol (40%). The consortium paid R $ 131.9 million in signing bonus for the concession of the area.
This is the first exploration project operated by Chevron in the Brazilian pre-salt. The company recently divested the Frade field, acquired by PetroRio, to focus its operations in the country’s pre-salt region.
