The Regulatory Agency of Energy and Basic Sanitation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Agernesa) will evaluate, this Tuesday the regulatory process to modernize and harmonize the regulation of the services of distribution and commercialization of natural gas for auto-producer, auto-importer and free consumer.
The new rules promote the separation of marketing and distribution activities, aiming to bring new suppliers and expand competition, and regulate the figure of free consumers, who will have the freedom to choose other suppliers of natural gas, as well as the distributor.
The improvement of the state regulatory framework is considered vital for Rio de Janeiro to reach the goal of increasing its gas production by 70% over the next ten years, monetizing pre-salt production and achieving competitive prices.
In a statement released today, the IBP celebrated the state government’s initiative, noting that they are in line with the basic premise advocated by the sector to bring greater competitiveness to the segment, opening space for job generation, income and taxes.
“The changes promoted by Agenersa are a fundamental step towards the opening of the natural gas market in the state that concentrates the largest production in the country, is an important consumer hub and a logistics hub in this segment,” the institute said.
