Vallourec was hired by TechnipFMC to supply seamless steel tubes to the Mero 1 field in the Santos Basin pre-salt. The supply will begin later this year.
There will be 12,000 t of pipes for the construction of rigid risers and flowlines to interconnect 13 wells (six of which are production and seven of injection).
TechnipFMC is responsible for the underwater interconnection (SURF) of Mero 1. The contract was signed with Petrobras in February of this year.
“We understand that the market has reached an inflection point, where demand for rigid pipes will increase,” said Alexandre Lyra, president of Vallourec in Brazil.
Located in the Libra area, Mero 1 is operated by Petrobras with a 40% stake, in partnership with Shell (20%), Total (20%), CNPC (10%) and CNOOC (10%).
Vallourec has plants in Jeceaba (MG) and Barreiro (MG) – both focused on seamless steel tubes – and a “one stop shop” in Vitória (ES), as well as a service unit in Rio de Janeiro.
