The Dutch company SBM Offshore is also keeping a close eye on the energy transition that the world is going through. The company presented some of its plans for renewable energy and also for the natural gas market, considered by many as a transition fuel for a cleaner matrix.
SBM Offshore’s business development director, Rafael Torres, participated in the Netherlands Business Forum – which took place o at Rio Oil & Gas program. In his presentation, the executive said that the Dutch company is preparing for the energy transition, with considerable investments in new technologies and innovation.
Some of the markets that attract interest are the offshore wind energy and also the natural gas. With an extensive experience in the offshore market, where the company is one of the main players in the FPSO industry worldwide, the proposal is to use all this expertise also in offshore wind projects. One of the bets is an innovative floating structure for turbines intended for these ventures. The solution is lightweight and modular, and according to Torres, the low cost of installation is one of its advantages.
The year 2018 has been positive for SBM. To remember, in early September, the company took another important step to resume business in the Brazilian market by closing a leniency agreement with the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF). In July, Petrobrás announced that it had signed a leniency agreement with the Ministry of Transparency and Comptroller General of the Union (CGU), the Federal Attorney General’s Office (AGU), and SBM, thus allowing the Dutch company to reopen of current tenders and future contracts.
