Norwegian oil company found oil in the Guanxuma prospect in the Santos Basin pre-salt
Equinor made a new discovery in block BM-S-8, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin. According to a notification to the ANP on July 13, oil was found in well 1-STAT-10A-SPS, in a water depth of 1,990 m.
Conducted by Seadrill’s West Saturn drill rig, the drilling of 1-STAT-10A-SPS or “Guanxuma A”, according to the nomenclature used by the Norwegian oil company, began on April 29 of this year.
“The preliminary results are encouraging. Further analysis of well information will be necessary to estimate volumes and commercial potential, “said Equinor, at the request of Brasil Energia Petróleo.
This is the fifth record of hydrocarbon evidence on BM-S-8 reported to the ANP. The first one dates from March 2018, at a water depth of 2,144 m, and the other three, May (2,072 m), June (2,072 m) and September (2,024 m) in 2015.
Equinor is the BM-S-8 operator with a 36.5% participation, with ExxonMobil (36.5%), Petrogal Brasil (17%) and Barra Energia (10%).
In addition to Guanxuma, the block also contains the prospect of Carcará, whose reserves are estimated at more than 2 billion barrels of recoverable oil.
