BP announces discovery in Tupinanba Block, Santos Basin

Oct. 17 – bp has identified signs of hydrocarbons in well 1-BP-14-SPS, the first exploratory well drilled in the Tupinambá block, located in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. Drilling took place in September using Transocean’s Deepwater Mykonos drillship.

The company acquired a 100% stake in the block during the second cycle of the Permanent Offer for Production Sharing Contracts in December 2023. On September 2 of this year, it sold a 50% interest in the area to Shell but remained the operator.

Tupinambá is one of two blocks operated by bp in Brazil. The other is Bumerangue, where the company announced its largest discovery in 25 years in August of last year.
