Sept. 30 – The P-80 platform departed the Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore on Wednesday ( (September 30th), bound for the Búzios field in the pre-salt Santos Basin, Brazil’s largest field in terms of reserves and production. With the capacity to produce 225,000 barrels of oil and process 12 million cubic meters of gas per day, among the largest capacities in the global industry, the P-80 is part of a group of six giant Petrobras platforms. The P-80 (Búzios 9) is the first in the series to leave the shipyard, and the next will be the P-82, which is in the final stage of construction. Both are expected to begin production in 2027.
“The P-80 stands out not only for having the highest production capacity among Petrobras’ own platforms, but also for incorporating some of the most advanced technologies and digital solutions ever included in a company project, ensuring greater operational and energy efficiency,” says Renata Baruzzi, Petrobras’ Director of Engineering, Technology and Innovation.
The other platforms in the series, P-83, P-84 and P-85, will be deployed, respectively, to the Búzios, Atapu and Sépia fields, also in the pre-salt Santos Basin.
For Petrobras, building platforms in series reduces costs and increases shipyard productivity, while also improving system reliability, reducing project risks and accelerating field development. Another strategy that has been adopted is having the platform travel with the crew on board, which helps ensure the systems are operationally ready.
The process modules for the P-80 were manufactured in Brazil at the Seatrium BrasFELS shipyard in Angra dos Reis, while those for the P-82 were produced at the Seatrium Aracruz shipyard in Espírito Santo, helping develop a skilled workforce and create jobs and income through Brazil’s shipbuilding industry. Other components were fabricated in China, Singapore and Indonesia before being transported to Singapore for final assembly.
Petrobras contracted the construction of the platforms under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning) model, in which the contractor is responsible for the unit’s engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning through to its delivery for operation in Brazil.
In August, the Búzios field set new monthly and daily records for natural gas exports, exceeding 10 million cubic meters per day on a monthly basis and reaching 14.1 million cubic meters per day in a single day. The field is operated by Petrobras in partnership with CNOOC and CNPC, as well as Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA).
