Aug. 26 (PN) -The Buzios field, located in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, set a new record for natural gas exports in July. During that period, the asset reached an average of 10.8 million cubic meters per day, underscoring the expansion of production destined for the Brazilian market and the operational reliability of the platforms. The previous record had been set in March, when Buzios exported an average of 9.1 million cubic meters per day.
The field also established a new daily benchmark: on August 6, it reached 14.1 million cubic meters per day, surpassing the 13.9 million cubic meters per day recorded in July. In July 2024, Buzios’ average gas export volume was 4.7 million cubic meters per day. Since then, the startup of the Rota 3 pipeline and the implementation of new projects have boosted the capacity to transport gas produced at the field.
According to Petrobras, this progress is not linked to the introduction of new production systems, but rather to improved performance from existing units. A key initiative involves modernizing the gas processing plants on the P-74, P-75, P-76, and P-77 platforms, including the replacement of membranes used for CO₂ removal.
The project began in 2025 and is in its final implementation phase, raising each platform’s export capacity from approximately 1.5 million to 3 million cubic meters per day. This volume could increase further following additional process adjustments. The FPSO Almirante Barroso is also contributing to these results. Gas export capacity is expected to continue growing over the coming years with the startup of the P-78 and P-79 platform systems, scheduled for completion by 2027. Upon completion of the field’s development, eight of the 12 planned platforms will have gas export capabilities, including Búzios 12—scheduled to begin operations in 2032 with an estimated capacity of 5.5 million cubic meters per day.
