April 16 – Petrobras has completed the interconnection campaign of the Buzios 8 project, a step that enables the first oil from the P-79 platform in the Búzios field, in the Santos Basin. The unit will have the capacity to produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day and compress 7.2 million cubic meters of gas daily, being the eighth to operate in the field. Now, only the approval of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) is needed for the platform to begin operations.
“The P-79 is ready for first oil as soon as ANP approves it. For those who think this challenge is small, it involves 1,300 hours of work, 15 km of flexible and rigid pipelines and umbilicals, in addition to significant naval equipment. Once approved, the Buz-90 well will begin production, expected to produce 50,000 barrels of oil per day,” said Petrobras president Magda Chambriard.
Located in ultra-deep waters, approximately 180 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, the P-79 is part of the Búzios 8 project, which includes the installation of 14 wells, eight producers and six injectors, as well as an export pipeline connected to the Rota 3 system.
The interconnection campaign was carried out in parallel with the anchoring campaign and involved 11 vessels, including units from the Petrobras fleet and those contracted under the EPCI model. According to the company, the main complexity of the operation lay in managing interfaces, with simultaneous activities on the FPSO and in the subsea environment, in addition to logistical challenges.
