Production by Brazilian independent oil companies reaches 364,000 barrels per day, a 22.8% increase

Feb. 5 (ABPIP) The average production of small and medium-sized oil companies in the country, the so-called independents, was 364,300 boe/d (barrels of oil equivalent per day) in 2025, a 22.8% increase compared to the previous year, reported the ABPIP (Brazilian Association of Independent Oil and Gas Producers).

This growth mainly reflects the expansion of offshore production in Rio de Janeiro, but also significant advances in other producing states.

Only in December 2025, according to ABPIP, did this production reach 384,900 boe/d, a 48.1% increase compared to the previous year, which it defines as a “positive sign” for the beginning of 2026.

“Even in a more challenging economic environment, ABPIP members consistently expanded the national supply of oil and gas, strengthened the production base for 2026, and maintained a significant contribution to job and income generation in producing states,” said ABPIP president Marcio Felix in a statement.

Breaking down by product, on average from January to December, oil production reached 273,000 boe/d, a 25.0% increase compared to 2024. Natural gas totaled 14.5 million cubic meters per day, a 16.6% increase in the same period.

Rio Leads
In the year-to-date figures, Rio de Janeiro accounted for 73% of total growth, adding approximately 49,400 boe/d to the average annual volume. Other states also contributed significantly, such as Maranhão, Espírito Santo, Bahia, Sergipe, and Alagoas. Oil and gas production in Amazonas remained practically stable in 2025 compared to the previous year.

Onshore
During the analyzed period, there was growth both offshore and onshore. Onshore production grew 9.9% in 2025, adding more than 12,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to the national average and accounting for 18% of the total increase in production for the year. Despite the continuous expansion of onshore production, this result highlights the continued relevance of onshore assets, mainly mature fields and those in traditional producing regions.

According to ABPIP, the activity of the independent oil companies that are part of the association guaranteed 9,350 direct jobs and 86,021 indirect jobs in 2025.
