Constellation signs a three year contract with Petrobras for its semi-submersible rig Alpha Star

(PN) Constellation announced a three-year contract with Petrobras, worth U$ 392 million, for the charter and operation of the Alpha Star semi-submersible rig. The unit will be used on the Brazilian coast and its activities are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. The scope of work will include the drilling, completion and intervention of wells in water depths of up to 2,400 meters.

Rodrigo Ribeiro, CEO of Constellation, said that the recovery of the oil and gas segment has driven the resumption of investments by exploration and production operating companies, and the consequent increase in demand for the provision of offshore services. “This new contract, the seventh currently in force with Petrobras, reinforces our long-term partnership with our largest client, the trust placed in our CONSTE operations and Constellation’s position as a Brazilian leader in the oil well drilling and completion sector. and offshore gas, with 100% of our units contracted”, he declared.

Alpha Star is a semi-submersible dynamic positioning rig, built in 2011, and capable of drilling in water depths of up to 9,000 feet. The unit has the capacity to drill wells up to 30,000 feet deep, being equipped to operate at typical pre-salt depths. Currently, the rig is contracted by 3R Petroleum and activities for Petrobras will begin shortly after the current contract ends.
