Brazil oil and gas production grows 9.6% in May to reach 4,110 boe/d

(TN) Pre-salt production in May was 3.196 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) and corresponded to 77.8% of Brazilian production. 2.510 million barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil and 109.16 million cubic meters per day (m³/d) of natural gas were produced through 144 wells. There was an increase of 5.9% in relation to the previous month and 12.7% in comparison with the same month of the previous year. The information is available in the ANP May 2023 Oil and Natural Gas Production Monthly Bulletin

In May, a total of 4.110 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) were produced, of which 3.201 million barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil and 144.410 million cubic meters per day (m³/d) of natural gas. In oil, there was an increase of 1.9% compared to the previous month and 11.2% compared to May 2022. In natural gas, production increased by 2% compared to April 2023 and 9.6% in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

Variations in production are expected and may occur due to factors such as scheduled stoppages of production units due to maintenance, start-up of wells, stoppage of wells for maintenance or cleaning, start of commissioning of new production units, among others. Such actions are typical of oil and natural gas production and seek stable and continuous operation, as well as increased production over time.

Use of natural gas

In May, the use of natural gas was 97.1%. 51.22 million m³/d were made available to the market and 4.14 million m³/d were burned. There was an increase in flaring of 6.9% compared to the previous month and a reduction of 9.4% compared to May 2022.

Origin of production

In May, offshore fields produced 97.7% of oil and 86.6% of natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras, alone or in consortium with other companies, were responsible for 89.64% of the total produced. Production came from 5,999 wells, 500 offshore and 5,499 onshore.

Fields and facilities

In May, the Tupi field, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, was the largest oil and gas producer, registering 835.37 thousand bbl/d of oil and 40.61 million m³/d of natural gas . The facility with the highest oil and natural gas production was the FPSO Guanabara in the Mero field, with 170,583 thousand bbl/d of oil and 10.82 million m3/d of gas.
