(PN) Karoon Energy announced that it has completed its drilling program, in the Santos Basin, with the Noble Developer rig (formerly known as Maersk Developer). The rig was contracted to carry out the oil company’s first workover campaign and the development of new fields in Brazil.
The rig was mobilized from the Caribbean to Brazil in April last year and began intervention operations in the Baúna field, in block BM-S-40, in May of the same year. After completing three interventions in Baúna, the rig drilled and completed two new production wells in the Patola field. The platform was then mobilized to drill two control wells at the Neon light oil discovery in block SM-1037. The last well in the program, Neon-2, was completed in March 2023, marking the end of 11 months of continuous operations.
“We were very pleased with the performance of the Noble Developer drilling rig. Karoon and Noble, along with our other service providers, adopted a ‘One Team’ approach from the start, which was key to delivering our drilling program safely and efficiently. We highly value the drilling team’s excellent safety culture, collaborative approach and problem-solving skills. I thank Noble and its drilling team and look forward to working with them again in the future,” said Karoon CEO Julian Fowles.
Noble President and CEO Robert Eifler welcomed the opportunity to partner with Karoon on this program and highlighted the exemplary level of trust and collaboration that was displayed across all three campaigns. “This has been a true ‘One Team’ experience, working together to prepare and execute operations safely and efficiently. We are delighted that the project was successful and that Noble Developer’s performance helped facilitate that success. We look forward to supporting Karoon’s future offshore drilling needs,”
