(PN) Shell notified the discovery of evidence of natural gas in block C-M-791, located in the Campos Basin, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, in a water depth of 2,917 meters. The discovery took place in well 1-SHEL-34A-RJS (Bob-1A), according to information from the National Petroleum Agency (ANP).
The drilling of the Bob-1A well began in January, with Seadrill’s West Tellus drillship. Block C-M-791 was acquired by the company in 2018, during the 15th ANP Bidding Round. Shell (40%) operates the area in consortium with Chevron (40%) and Petrogal (20%).
Also in January, the Brazilian Institute for the Environment (IBAMA) gave the green light for exploratory activity in the block. The license issued by the environmental agency is valid for 5 years and authorizes the drilling of up to three exploratory wells in the region.
