Changes in the organization of the future second largest thermoelectric plant in Brazil. The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) approved the sale of Prumo Logística’s stake in the Gás Natural Açu II (GNA II) plant, which is currently under construction at Porto do Açu, in São João da Barra (RJ).
With the transaction, Prumo will completely leave the project and transfer its share to BP and Siemens – partnerships in the project. When the transaction is completed, BP will increase its stake to 33.5% in the thermoelectric plant. Meanwhile, Siemens Energy will replace Siemens Participações in GNA II and increase its percentage to 33.5%. Chinese company SPIC will keep its current 33% in the project.
Construction of the GNA II plant began in October last year. The plant will have an installed capacity of 1.7 GW and will be the second of its kind at Porto do Açu – the first unit, GNA I, was inaugurated at the end of September. The GNA II thermoelectric plant, which is expected to start operating in 2024, is being built in conjunction with a partnership with the Andrade Gutierrez consortium, which will supply the civil works, infrastructure and assembly. Together, GNA I and GNA II will have a combined capacity of 3 GW.
