PETROBRAS REQUESTS DRILLING LICENSE FOR BLOCKS IN THE FOZ DO AMAZON BASIN

Petrobrás announced that it has asked the Environmental Licensing Board of the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) for an operating license for the offshore drilling activity in blocks FZA-M-57, FZA- M-86, FZA-M-88, FZA-M-125 and FZA-M-127, in the Foz do Amazonas Basin.

Also according to the oil company, the Environmental Impact Study and the respective Environmental Impact Report – EIA/RIMA were prepared, electronically filed with the environmental agency, as a subsidy for the operation license application.

As Petronotícias recently published, there is already a lot of movement at Petrobras in preparation for drilling these blocks. Already five groups are vying for the contract to supply helicopters to support drilling on the Equatorial Margin. In recent statements, the exploration and production director at the state-owned company, Fernando Borges, said Petrobras plans to invest around US$1.5 billion to drill 14 wells on the Equatorial Margin over the next five years.
