The oil and gas industry in Brazil saw an expressive 700% growth in the number of mergers and acquisitions in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2020. According to a survey carried out by KPMG, the sector had 16 operations in January and June 2021. Last year, at the same interval, there were only two transactions of this type.
Of the total of acquisitions and mergers in the oil and gas sector in Brazil in 2021, nine were carried out between Brazilian companies. Another five deals of the type were closed with foreign companies acquiring companies in the country. And, finally, there were also two operations that involved Brazilian companies acquiring capital from groups abroad.
Overall, Brazil had the best semester for mergers and acquisitions in ten years, according to the KPMG survey. Between January and June 2021, Brazilian companies carried out 804 operations, an increase of approximately 55% compared to the same period in 2020 (541).
