10 YEAR ENERGY PLAN PROVIDES RESOURCES UP TO $ 454 BILLION AND 39 NEW PLATFORMS BY 2030 IN BRAZIL

The 10 Year Energy Plan (PDE) 2030 is in public consultation this week, bringing some expressive forecasts about how the oil and gas sector in Brazil will develop in this decade. The document points out that the exploration and production (E&P) segment should receive investments between US$ 415 billion and US$ 454 billion in the period, in addition to contracting 39 new platforms.

The document points out, however, that the current difficult economic scenario, the reduction in the price of a barrel, the effects of the pandemic and even possible new revisions in the planning of oil companies may affect these investment forecasts in the next cycle of the PDE.

The PDE 2030 works with the forecast that oil production in the country will reach 5.3 million barrels per day in 2030, approximately double the value recorded in 2019. To support the growth of this curve, the plan believes that Brazil will have up to 39 new platforms installed over the next 10 years.

“It is admitted that part of this demand can be met through the current trend of standardization of FPSO-type UEP projects and the conversion of existing vessels, thus allowing the optimization of construction terms and costs. The possibility of chartering is also allowed for cases of delay in the delivery of UEP [production unit] ”, details the PNE 2030.

The document, produced by the Energy Research Company (EPE), further states that the production of natural gas – supported only by resources in the reserve category – will reach its peak in 2028, hitting the 183 million m³ / day mark, with a mild decline until the end of the ten-year period.

PDE 2030 also reinforced the idea that the pre-salt will continue its growth path in the country’s total oil production share. By the end of 2030, the pre-salt will account for a significant portion (about 79%) of national oil production. The Santos Basin will have a strong weight in this scenario.

The plan also added that the entire Transfer of Rights, including Búzios, will account for about 37% of total oil production in 2029. Another highlight will be the Mero and Bacalhau Norte fields, under a production sharing contract, which can reach 712 thousand barrels per day at the end of the decade. To participate in the public consultation of the PNE 2030, it is necessary to enter the website of the Ministry of Mines and Energy and complete the contribution form.
