New information regarding seismic and reservoirs revealed a possible increase in the attractiveness of the blocks that should be included in the Round. The information was announced this week by the director of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) Dirceu Amorelli during the collegiate board meeting of the agency.
As is known, the auction was suspended in April, due to the adverse economic scenario caused by the coronavirus pandemic. However, director Amorelli revealed that the restart of the bidding process should be postponed for a little longer, so that ANP technical teams could analyze new information about the potential of the areas on offer.
“We had the arrival of new data regarding the blocks that are being offered, under the guidance of the CNPE [National Energy Policy Council], in this round. The new seismic information and information about the reservoirs shows, at a first glance, that there may be an increase in the attractiveness of these blocks. This needs to be reassessed by the ANP ”, he declared.
Amorelli added that the technical teams involved in the reassessment of the blocks will be quick in the process of analyzing the new data, so that the bidding is resumed within the established schedule. The government plans to hold the auction in 2021. In the 17th Bidding Round, 96 blocks will be offered in the Sedimentary Basins of Campos, Pelotas, Potiguar and Santos, with a total area of 54,000 km².
