Oil company plans to drill up to three wells in the Patola discovery area, in the shallow waters of the Santos Basin
Karoon submitted a project to Ibama to drill two production wells and a contingent in the area of the discovery of Patola, in the south of the Santos Basin. The wells Patola A and Patola B are located in water depths of 321 m and 271 m, respectively, 200 km from the coast between the states of São Paulo and Paraná.
The discovery is in the BM-S-40 concession, originating from the old exploratory blocks S-M-1288 and S-M-1289. The Australians estimates that there are 10.6 million barrels of recoverable resources in the area, with characteristics similar to the reserves in the nearby fields, considered to be of good quality and with 38º API oil.
The bases for maritime support evaluated to support the activity are that of Nitshore Engenharia e Serviços Portatórios S / A, Brasco Logística Offshore and / or the Mac Laren Oil shipyard, all in Niterói (RJ). The planned air base is Navegantes Airport, in Santa Catarina.
The presence of oil in Patola was confirmed by the drilling of well 4-SPS-91, by Petrobras, in 2011. Karoon’s decision to drill in the area was announced last year, aiming to contribute to the increase in production in the Baúna field – asset acquired from Petrobras in 2019 via an operation that still depends on ANP approval.
In Brazil, Karoon operates block S-M-1537, in Santos, with a 100% stake. Regarding the production phase, is the operator of the Neon and Goiá development areas, which annexed the Neon Sul and Goiá Sul areas, respectively.
