Shell announced the sale of 30% of its stake in the project Gato do Mato, which includes exploratory blocks BM-S-54 and Sul de Gato do Mato, in the Santos Basin, to Ecopetrol. With this operation, which has to be approved by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), Shell continues to operate the project with a 50% stake and Total with a 20% stake.
In June, Shell received a license from Ibama to drill up to two exploratory wells in the area of the southern block of Gato do Mato, in the Santos Basin, awarded at the 2nd pre-salt auction, held in 2017. The license is valid until June 2023 and predicts that the campaign will use the Brava Star rig from Queiroz Galvão Oil and Gas.
In August, it received an environmental license from Ibama for the acquisition of 3D seismic data in the area of blocks BM-S-54 and Sul de Gato do Mato, both in the Santos Basin. The license, issued on August 1, is valid for seven months and runs until March 2020.
Shell is planning the installation of an FPSO platform with spread mooring in the exploratory block area BM-S-54, where the discovery is named Gato do Mato, in the Santos Basin pre-salt. The discovery, which will be developed in conjunction with the Sul de Gato do Mato exploration block, is expected to begin production in the third quarter of 2023 with an FPSO with a capacity of 90,000 barrels per day of oil and 8.5 million m3 per Natural gas day.
The production unit will hold 1.6 million barrels of oil and is expected to work in the area for 25 years. The production project includes 10 wells, four producers, four gas injectors and two other seawater injector wells.
The company recently launched a tender for a floating mooring FPSO charter in the Gato do Mato area, which is expected to begin production in the third quarter of 2023. Sul do Gato do Mato is a continuation south of block BM-S-54. The main purpose of the campaign is to acquire additional information about the reservoir discovered in the original area. A training test is also planned.
