Seadrill believes there will still be business opportunities for its PLSVs whose contracts with Petrobras are coming to an end this year. According to its CEO, Anton Dibowitz, the entry of new IOCs in the Brazilian market is contributing to its recovery.
The company currently operates five submarine launch vessels for Petrobras by Seabras, a joint venture with Sapura Maritime Navigation. Among them is Sapura Topázio, whose charter expires at the end of September. In July, the Sapura Diamante contract was terminated.
“Seabras sees new opportunities, but these are high spec units, and we will have to see how this process will unfold,” said the executive, during a conference with analysts.
The other PLSVs chartered by the JV to Petrobras are Sapura Esmeralda, Jade, Onix and Rubi. Started between 2014 and 2016, their contracts are expected to expire between 2021 and 2024.
Petrobras’ current fleet consists of 15 PLSVs. On the list are two other vessels that will have contracts ending by the end of this year: Top Atlantic Coral and Top Starfish, from the TechnipFMC / Ocyan consortium.
