Group invested 150 million BRL to expand unit in Sorocaba-SP
The Prysmian Group, world leader in cables, power and telecommunications systems, officially inaugurated its new Latin America headquarters in the city of Sorocaba, in the countryside of São Paulo, on Wednesday, July 10th.
To celebrate the occasion, Global CEO Valério Battista and company executives met in Brazil to learn about the new facilities that, from now on, concentrate the group’s administrative operations in the region.
Around 400 employees participated in a formal inauguration ceremony for the new Center of Excellence, which featured brief speeches from Global CEO, Valério Batista, and Latam CEO, Juan Mogollon, followed by the unveiling of a large panel of approximately 600 square meters located on the outer face of the new Distribution Center.
The day also featured a press conference and a major event dedicated to the group’s main clients in Latin America. The highlight of the event was a Panel with experts from the energy and telecommunications industries who discussed the evolution of these sectors in the face of economic and technological challenges.
In this project, called Project +90, referencing the 90 years of the company in Brazil, also celebrated at the time, the Prysmian Group invested about 150 million BRL in the expansion of two of its seven units in the country: Sorocaba and Poços de Caldas. In the Sorocaba unit, located in the neighborhood of Eden, the group invested in the expansion and modernization of production lines for power cables, optical and metallic cables for data transmission and special cables for the automotive industry and in the construction of a new Distribution Center. The unit also became the new Center of Excellence for Latin America, which has a Research and Development reference laboratory in the areas of energy and telecommunications and a new administrative building. The increase in area built in this unit reaches 23.000 square meters.
The building has contemporary design features, large windows and wide spaces that stimulate integration and coexistence, being inspired by the connectivity, sustainability and layout solutions of its equivalent in the Milan headquarters in Italy, and can accommodate up to 340 employees. The building will hold the entire administrative body for both Latin America and Brazil.
The Group chose the city of Sorocaba for being strategically close to the company’s main market in the region. In 2018, in Brazil, sales reached approximately R $ 1.9 billion net.
