PETROBRAS PRODUCES BUNKER WITH 0.34% SULFUR CONTENT

4/24/2019

Petrobras has produced its first batch of VLSFO sulfur bunker fuel that is compatible with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations for 2020 according to Argus and reported by Ship & Bunker.

Although not the first oil company to do so, it is one of the first to have published some specifications for the fuel. The information disclosed is that it is fuel with a sulfur content of 0.34%.

Oils produced in Brazil are known to be particularly poor in sulfur.

It was reported that 618 tons of the fuel were transported by tanker charter chartered by Petrobras on April 21.

Petrobras joins a number of other companies announcing recent launches of VLSFO ahead of the new global sulfur limit, which includes Red Sea Bunkering (RSB), BP, whose fuel will be available in the second half of 2019, and Stonewin , which will offer 0.50% VLSFO bunkers in accordance with IMO2020 in Port Louis, Mauritius, as of 1 May.
