A new survey by KPMG consultancy indicates that the state of Rio de Janeiro had 75 mergers and acquisitions in the year 2018, a considerable increase compared to the 62 operations registered in the previous year. The main highlight was the oil and gas sector, which had the largest number of transactions of type – 12 in total.
The data are from the KPMG mergers and acquisitions survey conducted with 43 sectors of the Brazilian economy. Besides oil and gas, other areas that stood out were internet companies (10); energy companies (9); education (6); information technology (4); service companies (4).
According to KPMG, the increase registered in mergers and acquisitions in the State of Rio de Janeiro is in line with the growth of operations of the type in the Southeast when the data for 2018 and 2017 are compared.
According to the survey, the total number of mergers and acquisitions in Brazil hit a new historical record in 2018, with 967 transactions completed, a 16.5% increase compared to 2017.
