PPSA has new CEO, José Eduardo Gerk, as of April

March 29, 2019

The Board of Directors of PPSA (Pre-Salt Oil) chose mechanical engineer José Eduardo Vinhaes Gerk as its new CEO. He will take over from April 1 in the place of engineer Ibsen Flores Lima. Gerk will also have a vacancy in the board of directors of the state-owned company.

The new president is formed by the Military Engineering Institute (IME), with a master’s and a doctorate degree in mechanical engineering from COPPE / UFRJ. Gerk holds a specialization in Petroleum Engineering from Petrobrás University and 30 years of experience in the oil field. He started his career at Petrobrás and later served as a consultant and manager of companies, in addition to being a full professor of the engineering course at Veiga de Almeida University.

According to PPSA, one of Gerk’s challenges will be to contribute to the successful auctioning of exploration and production areas under production sharing arrangements, in particular the auction of the Transfer of Rights surpluses. As is well known, it is the responsibility of the PPSA to manage production-sharing contracts, as well as to market the Union’s petroleum and natural gas and to act in the agreements for the individualization of production.

Ibsen Flores Lima served as CEO of the state-owned company since November 2016. During his tenure, he managed 14 production-sharing contracts and signed three production individualization agreements (Brava, Atapu and Mero).
