Shell’s drilling plan for Sul of Gato do Mato receives green light from ANP

The ANP board approved Shell’s exploration plan for the southern area of Gato do Mato. The oil company intends to drill two wells in the sharing area, contracted in the 2nd pre-salt auction in 2017.

QGOG’s Brava Star drill rig was hired to run the campaign at a rate of $ 130,000 / day for a year. In addition to drilling in Sul do Gato do Mato, the 3,000 m unit will drill two more wells in Alto de Cabo Frio Oeste, in the Santos Basin, and in BC-10, in the Campos Basin.

Sul do Gato do Mato is an area adjacent to Gato do Mato, under concession regime, located on BM-S-54, 7th round. The campaign aims to discover additional information on the pre-salt discovery made on the neighboring block.

The activity still depends on issuance of environmental license by Ibama. The campaign in the areas of sharing is expected to begin in 2019 and extend throughout the year.

Shell holds an 80% stake in the Sul do Gato do Mato area and divides the asset with Total with 20%.
