A day after signing the concession contract for exploratory area C-M-791, purchased on the 15th Round, Shell began the licensing for exploratory well drilling in the area. The company intends to drill up to three exploratory wells starting January 2021. The campaign must have a maximum duration of 120 days.
The logistic bases for primary support to the activity are not yet defined, and can be located in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Niterói (RJ), Arraial do Cabo (RJ), São João da Barra (RJ) or Vila Velha (ES).
Shell is the operator of the area with a 40% stake and partners with Petrogal (20%) and Chevron (40%).
This is not the first time Shell files to license its exploration projects in the country. Shell has filed to license at Ibama the drilling five wells in the pre-salt, two in the southern block of Gato do Mato, in the Santos Basin, and three in the Alto do Cabo Frio Oeste, Santos Basin. It also began licensing one day after the signing of the concession agreement.
