Petrobras will be able to contract six marine drill rigs by mid-2019, at least two of them to operate in the Libra area in the Santos Basin pre-salt. The forecast is for Transocean’s Senior Vice President, Roddie Mackenzie.
During a conference with analysts last week, the executive said he had a very positive feeling toward Brazil, especially as Jair Bolsonaro won in the presidential election.
“He had committed to the deregulation and privatization of some of Petrobras’ subsidiaries, as well as guaranteeing that he will keep the bidding schedule for exploratory blocks,” he said.
As published by BE Petróleo, Petrobras is promoting bids to hire drill rigs for Libra / Mero, for block BM-S-11 and the project known as “pool”.
Present in Brazil since 1996, Noble Corporation is one of the rig operators that participates in Petrobras bids. Without contracts in force in the country, the company is confident in new business.
“We see a lot of opportunities [in Brazil] in 2019 and especially in 2020. We are paying close attention to this market,” company vice president Robert W. Eifler told investors.
Rowan already foresees possible synergies with Ensco in the country. In October, the companies announced a $ 3.9 billion merger.
“We operated in Brazil before and we have structures there. So we still want to bid [in the region], “said the CEO of the company, Thomas Peter Burke, during the presentation of the third quarter results.
Vantage Drilling CEO Ihab Toma pointed out that the growing activity of new operators in the country should bring significant improvements to the ultra deepwater business.
“We are well positioned to take advantage of the recovery of the drilling sector,” the executive said at an investor conference.
