Sept. 18 (PN) Petrobras held the christening ceremony for the vessel Starnav Elektra this week in Rio. Built by the Detroit Shipyard in Itajaí (Santa Catarina), the Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) represents an investment of approximately R$ 450 million and is the first vessel delivered under the Open Sea Program (Programa Mar Aberto), an initiative aimed at renewing and expanding the Petrobras System’s fleet. The vessel will now proceed to operate alongside platforms in Brazilian oil basins.
The Starnav made the voyage from Santa Catarina to Rio de Janeiro with an all-female crew. Commanded by Isabela Teixeira Ponce de Leon, the onboard team consists of 16 women. The christening ceremony took place at the Rio Port Warehouse at Pier Mauá.
During the ceremony, Petrobras President Magda Chambriard stated that the investments made by the company in the naval and offshore industries help drive a new cycle of business and opportunities for the sector, while also increasing the return on the company’s capital. “These are projects that bring us greater efficiency and profit. When we use our own fleet, we save resources and add value to the Petrobras portfolio,” she said.
The executive also reiterated the company’s commitment to fleet renewal, aiming to ensure safety and continuity for the domestic industry. “This first delivery proves that we keep our promises. Forty-eight vessels have been contracted through the end of this year. By next year, we will reach a total of 96 vessels, including barges and push boats. Brazilian companies are performing excellently and winning all the tenders,” she highlighted.
