Petrobras Announces New Hydrocarbon Discovery in Ultra-Deep Waters off the Coast of Amapá

Rio de Janeiro, August 14th, 2026 – Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras has identified the presence of hydrocarbons in an exploratory well currently being drilled in Block FZA-M-59, located in deep waters offshore Amapá, within the Foz do Amazonas Basin in Brazil’s Equatorial Margin. The Morpho well (1-BRSA-1405-APS) is located approximately 175 km off the coast of the State of Amapá, in a water depth of 2,886 meters.

The hydrocarbon-bearing interval was identified through wireline logs and rock indications. Operation remains ongoing to continue the exploratory evaluation, carried out safely and with respect for the environment and people.

The Activities in Block FZA-M-59, located in the Foz do Amazonas sedimentary basin, are aligned with Petrobras’ strategy to replenish oil and gas reserves through exploration in frontier areas, supporting Brazil’s energy demand during the just energy transition.

Petrobras is the operator of Block FZA-M-59 and holds a 100% participating interest in the area. The block was acquired under the concession regime in ANP’s 11th Licensing Round, held in 2013.

The map indicates the location of the discovery on the Coast of Amapá.
