Petrobras Announces R$60 Billion Investment for Sergipe Deepwater Project and Pipeline Tender in 2026

May 28 – Petrobras announced investments of approximately R$60 billion in Sergipe as part of the Sergipe Deepwater Project (SEAP), an initiative that should increase the Northeast’s share of the national natural gas supply from the current 16% to 31% by 2035. The information was announced by the state-owned company’s president, Magda Chambriard.

The SEAP project marks the opening of a new oil and gas production frontier in the Northeast Region and includes the SEAP 1 and SEAP 2 platforms, as well as the construction of a pipeline to transport the natural gas produced by the units to the coast. Each platform is expected to produce around 120,000 barrels of oil daily. Together, the platforms will produce 22 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, of which 18 million will be directed to the coast via the pipeline. Oil production is scheduled to begin in 2030, while gas transportation is expected to start in 2031.

The platforms, P-81 nd P-87, will be built by SBM Offshore using the BOT (Build, Operate and Transfer) model. Under this model, the Dutch company will be responsible for the construction and operation of the units for a period of six and a half years, until the final transfer to Petrobras. According to the state-owned company, negotiations have already been concluded and the contracts are in the final stages of signing.

Magda Chambriard also reported that Petrobras will decommission 26 platforms installed in Sergipe that have reached the end of their useful life. The process includes the disconnection of 169 producing wells and should generate approximately 2,000 jobs related to decommissioning activities. According to the president of Petrobras, considering the investments for the removal of old platforms and the construction of the two new FPSOs, the company’s total investments in Sergipe should reach R$ 70 billion.

GAS PIPELINE TENDER IN 2026

The executive manager of Production Development Projects at Petrobras, Dimitrios Magalhães, stated that Petrobras intends to launch the tender for the Sergipe Deep Water project’s outflow gas pipeline in 2026.

According to Petrobras, the pipeline will be 134 kilometers long and will be responsible for transporting up to 18 million cubic meters of natural gas per day produced by the SEAP 1 and SEAP 2 platforms.
