ExxonMobil presses ahead with development drilling at Uaru

March 18 (oilnow.gy) ExxonMobil Guyana Limited (EMGL) will continue development drilling at the Uaru Project’s UA_4P04 drill center in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana, according to a notice from the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD).

Operations began on March 12, 2026, within Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

The MODU Noble Tom Madden is conducting the drilling campaign. The vessel “will be engaged in drilling activities which will conclude on April 30, 2026,” MARAD said.  

The drill center is located about 98.4 nautical miles (182.2 kilometers) offshore and covers an area of 0.29 square nautical miles (1 square kilometer).

The maritime authority said vessels participating in the activity will display the international signal for ships engaged in such operations.

“All mariners are required to stay clear of these vessels and navigate with extreme caution when in the vicinity.”

The US$12.7 billion Uaru development targets more than 800 million barrels of recoverable oil. It will comprise up to 10 drill centers and 44 wells and is designed to reach peak production of 250,000 barrels per day.

Japanese contractor MODEC is constructing the Errea Wittu floating production, storage and offloading vessel, which will handle processing and storage for the field.

ExxonMobil operates the Stabroek Block with a 45% interest, alongside Hess with 30% and CNOOC with 25%.
