Oct. 1 – The ANP released the Monthly Oil and Natural Gas Production Bulletin for August 2025, which provides consolidated national production data.
Total production (oil + natural gas) was 5.084 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), maintaining the level above 5 million boe/d, reached for the first time in July.
Regarding oil, 3.896 million barrels per day (bbl/d) were extracted, a 1.6% decrease compared to the previous month and a 16.6% increase compared to the same month in 2024. One of the highlights in the oil sector was that, for the first time, the largest producer was the Búzios Field, surpassing Tupi.
Natural gas production in August was 188.9 million cubic meters per day (m³/d). This represented a 1.0% decrease compared to July and an 18.2% increase compared to August 2024.
Pre-salt
Total production (oil + natural gas) in the pre-salt layer in August was 4.033 million boe/d, accounting for 79.4% of Brazilian production. Production decreased by 1.1% compared to the previous month and increased by 16.5% compared to the same month in 2024.
3.126 million bbl/d of oil and 144.15 million m³/d of natural gas were produced through 173 wells.
Natural Gas Utilization
In August, natural gas utilization reached 97.4%. A total of 68.69 million m³/d were released to the market, and flaring was 4.88 million m³/d. Flaring decreased by 10.9% compared to the previous month and increased by 35.2% compared to August 2024.
Production Source
In the month, offshore fields produced 97.6% of the oil and 85.3% of the natural gas. Fields operated by Petrobras, either alone or in consortium with other companies, accounted for 90.07% of the total production. Production originated from 6,634 wells, 567 offshore and 6,067 onshore.
Fields and Facilities
In August, the Búzios field, in the Santos Basin pre-salt layer, was the largest oil producer, registering 821,880 bbl/d of oil, surpassing the Tupi field for the first time. The Tupi field, also in the Santos Basin, remained the largest natural gas producer, with 39.15 million m³/d.
The facilities with the highest production were the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, in the Búzios Field, for oil (195,795 bbl/d); and the FPSO Guanabara, in the shared Mero field, for gas (11.89 million m³/d).
