BP finds oil and gas signs in the Bumerange block, Santos Basin

(PN) BP identified oil and gas signs in the wildcat well (1-BP-13-SPS) of the Bumerangue block, located in the Santos Basin pre-salt layer, in a water depth of 2,300 meters. Drilling of the well began in late May with the Valaris Renaissance drillship.

The Bumerangue block was fully acquired by BP during the 1st Cycle of the Permanent Share Offer (OPP), held in 2022.

In July of last year, the company drilled the wildcat well (1-BP-12D-RJS) of the Pau Brasil block, also in the Santos Basin pre-salt layer. In August of the same year, the company announced the discovery of oil traces in the well, at a water depth of 2,283 meters.

BP operates four exploration blocks in Brazil. In the Santos Basin, the company leads the Bumerangue and Tupinambá assets, both with a 100% interest. It also operates the Pau Brasil block, where it holds a 50% interest, in a consortium with CNOOC (30%) and Ecopetrol (20%). In the Barreirinhas Basin, BP operates block BM-BAR-346, with a 50% interest, in partnership with Total.

The company also owns blocks BM-BAR-3 and BAR-M-175 (BM-BAR-5), each with a 40% interest, which are operated by Petrobras. In the Campos Basin, the company participates in block C-M-477 (30%) and Alto de Cabo Frio Central (50%), both with Petrobras as operator.
