BP Energy begins drilling a new well in the Bumerange Block in the Santos Basin

(PN) British company BP has taken new steps in its exploratory activities in Brazil. This week, the company began drilling the wildcat well 1-BP-13-SPS, in the Bumerangue block, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. The activity is being carried out in a water depth of 2,372 meters with the drillship Valaris Renaissance. The Bumerangue block was acquired by the company in December 2022, during the first auction of the Permanent Sharing Offer.

In July of last year, the company drilled the wildcat well (1-BP-12D-RJS) in the Pau Brasil block, also in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. In August of the same year, the company announced the discovery of traces of oil in the well, in a water depth of 2,283 meters.

bp is the operator of four exploration blocks in Brazil. In the Santos Basin, the company leads the Bumerangue and Tupinambá assets, both with a 100% stake. It also operates in the Pau Brasil block, where it holds a 50% stake, in a consortium with CNOOC (30%) and Ecopetrol (20%).

In the Barreirinhas Basin, bp operates the BM-BAR-346 block, with a 50% stake, in partnership with Total. The company also integrates the BM-BAR-3 and BAR-M-175 (BM-BAR-5) blocks, with a 40% stake in each, which are operated by Petrobrás. In the Campos Basin, the company participates in the C-M-477 block (30%) and Alto de Cabo Frio Central (50%), both with Petrobrás as operator.
