Eletrobras reports a loss of R$81 million in the 1st quarter of 2025

(agenciabrasil.com.br) Eletrobras reported a loss of R$81 million in the 1st quarter of 2025. According to the company, the result reflects the review carried out by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) in the regulatory base of assets of Companhia Hidro Elétrica do São Francisco (Chesf), one of Eletrobras’ main subsidiaries. “The impact of the review totaled R$952 million, which affected the accounting result”, explained the company in a note.

Expenses with personnel, material, services and others (PMSO) decreased by 28% compared to the last quarter of 2024 and by 8% compared to the same period in 2024. The result “shows the consolidation of a trend that had already been observed in previous quarters and reflects the initiatives to adapt the staff, in addition to adjustments in processes and in the organizational structure”.

The agreements to renegotiate compulsory loans have continued to decline since capitalization. The debt decreased by R$2.9 billion compared to the same period last year, with a decrease of R$447 million compared to the last quarter of 2024. In the second quarter of 2022, the debt totaled R$26.1 billion and today it is R$13.1 billion. This liability originates from charges debited from end consumer bills, which financed the expansion of the Brazilian electricity system and gave rise to legal disputes, which are now being resolved.

“We are increasingly focused on the company’s growth and on increasing investments. This is a new moment”, explains Eletrobras’ president, Ivan Monteiro. “The reduction in PMSO and the reduction in compulsory provisions are the result of the strategy of making the company more efficient without ever neglecting the priority of the safety of assets, people and the environment”, he highlighted.

Investments
In the first quarter of the year, Eletrobras invested R$912 million. The 25% drop compared to the disbursement in the same period in 2024 is explained by the completion of one of the company’s largest projects, the Coxilha Negra wind farm, in Santana do Livramento (RS). In operation since April, the park has a generation capacity of 302.4 MW and represented investments of more than R$2.4 billion.

According to Eletrobras, in the first quarter of 2025, the progress of the Manaus-Boa Vista transmission line stands out, with 87% of the works already completed and expected to be completed in the second half of the year. With this project, which has been halted for more than 10 years, all Brazilian states will be connected to the national integrated system. The total investment in the transmission line reaches R$3.3 billion.
