(PN) PRIO announces the drilling of the company’s first greenfield project, the Wahoo field, in the Campos Basin. The announcement was made by the company’s president, Roberto Monteiro, on his LinkedIn profile.
“The project, which began this month, is a milestone in our strategy of developing mature fields through subsea connections (tiebacks) and reflects the increasing complexity of the projects we have taken on since the beginning”, wrote the executive.
PRIO had received the license for drilling at the end of February. The activity will be carried out with the Hunter Queen rig. According to the independent oil company’s plans, production from the field will be made possible by a submarine connection (tieback) approximately 30 km long, connecting Wahoo to the FPSO Frade, which has a processing capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day.
Acquired in March 2021, Wahoo was declared commercially viable in December of the same year, after feasibility studies. Although there are already exploratory wells that prove the presence of oil, the previous operator did not develop the infrastructure necessary for production. PRIO believes that the interconnection with the FPSO Frade is crucial to the success of the project, as without this structure, Wahoo would be economically unviable.
