Petrobras Forecasts Daily Production of 1.5 Million Barrels in Buzios and Announces R$78 Billion in Investments in Brazilian Shipyards

Petrobras expects to reach a production of 1.5 million barrels of oil per day in the Búzios field in the near future. The information was given by the CEO of the state-owned company, Magda Chambriard, during a Transpetro event. According to her, the increase in production will be supported by a robust hiring of support vessels, boosting the Brazilian naval industry. Last week the Búzios field received its new platform, the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, which has the capacity to produce 225 thousand barrels of oil per day.

The CEO also pointed out that Petrobras is expected to put 10 new platforms into operation by 2029, taking into account both the units for Búzios and other fields. Of this total, seven units have already been contracted and three more will still have their bids launched on the market. “In order for this operation [of new platforms] to be possible, we will contract, by 2026, 44 more [support] vessels. If we consider the period up to 2029, there will be many more vessels”, highlighted Chambriard. These vessels will have financing from the Merchant Marine fund and accelerated depreciation, measures that, according to the executive, will strengthen the market for the national industry. Another point emphasized was the commitment to local content, which can increase from 40% to up to 65%, thanks to partnerships with the federal government and incentives from the Merchant Marine Fund.

FORECAST OF INVESTMENT OF ALMOST R$80 BILLION IN BRAZILIAN SHIPYARDS

The CEO of Petrobrás said that, by the end of 2026, R$58 billion will be invested in Brazilian shipyards alone to build process plants for the 10 new platforms, which will result in the creation of more than 60,000 direct and indirect jobs in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo. In addition, another R$20 billion will be invested in support vessels, creating another 27,000 jobs.

Chambriard also addressed the need to replenish reserves and explore new frontiers, with emphasis on the Brazilian Equatorial Margin. She reinforced that, if the company obtains the environmental license, all activities will be conducted safely and under strict monitoring.

“Petrobras demonstrates its commitment to Brazil and the safety of our operations every day. We have 19 operational bases ready to act in any emergency. We also have a partnership with NASA to monitor possible spills and one of the four existing equipment in the world capable of plugging a well in case of a leak,” he concluded.
