Petrobras has signed contracts worth R$16.5 billion for the construction and chartering of 12 Platform Supply Vessels (PSV). Of the total value of the contracts, R$5.2 billion are earmarked for investments in shipbuilding in Brazil. These vessels will be essential for the company’s Exploration and Production logistics operations until 2028.
The contracts, signed with the companies Bram Offshore and Starnav Serviços Marítimos, were announced this Thursday (12/12) by President Magda Chambriard, during the Plenary Meeting of the Council for Sustainable Economic and Social Development (CDESS), in Brasília.
According to Magda Chambriard, the modernization of the fleet of support vessels is one of the initiatives in Petrobras’ Business Plan for the period 2025 to 2029. “These new units will not only incorporate the latest technology, but also represent our commitment to sustainable and innovative best practices. These are projects that meet the highest environmental, social and governance standards, essential for a sustainable future, in addition to generating around 11,000 direct and indirect jobs,” said the CEO.
The contracts include a period of up to four years for mobilization and 12 years of operation, in addition to the requirement of 40% local content during the construction phase. The vessels will be built in the winning companies’ own shipyards, located in Santa Catarina, in the cities of Navegantes (Bram) and Itajaí (Starnav). Each company will be responsible for chartering six vessels for Petrobras.
Hybrid engines
The support vessels will have a hybrid propulsion system, which combines electric motors and batteries with diesel/biodiesel generators, in line with Petrobras’ commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The contracts will have a significant positive impact on the national shipbuilding industry and on the generation of jobs in the sector, in line with the commitments of Petrobras’ Business Plan.
