The Brazilian Environmental Institute (Ibama) gave the green light for the installation of the new platform ship (FPSO) in the Mero field, in the Santos Basin. The environmental agency issued the license for the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão, which is being built by SBM Offshore and is expected to come into operation in 2025.
The FPSO will be installed approximately 160 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro and will be chartered by SBM to Petrobrás for a period of 22 years and six months. The platform ship will have the capacity to produce 180 thousand barrels per day and compress 12 million cubic meters of gas per day.
The project foresees the interconnection of 15 wells to the FPSO, eight of which are oil producers, six water and gas injectors and one well convertible from producer to gas injector, through a subsea infrastructure composed of rigid production and injection pipelines and flexible pipelines. services.
The Mero field is the third largest in the pre-salt and is located in the Libra area, operated by Petrobrás (40%) in partnership with Shell Brasil Petróleo (20%), TotalEnergies EP Brasil (20%), CNODC Brasil Petróleo and Gas (10%), CNOOC Petroleum Brasil (10%) and Pré-Sal Petróleo (PPSA), which plays the role of manager of this contract.
Currently, Mero has three production units: FPSO Pioneiro de Libra, FPSO Guanabara and FPSO Sepetiba – the latter of which came into operation as soon as the lights go out in 2023, as we reported.
