(PN) Petronas began drilling its first exploratory well in the country this week. The activity took place in a water depth of 3,027 meters, in block C-M-661, in the Campos Basin. The well is being drilled by the Valaris Renaissance rig (DS-15) and has been named Mola-1.
As a reminder, block C-M-661 was purchased by the Malaysian company in 2019, during the 16th Concession Round of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP). The company will be able to drill up to four wells in the block, depending on the results obtained in Mola-1.
In addition to holding a 100% stake in block C-M-661, Petronas is also the operator of another exploratory asset in Brazil: block C-M-715 (100%), in the Campos Basin, also acquired in the 16th Concession Round.
The company also has stakes in blocks C-M-541 (20%) and Agua Marinha (20%), both in the Campos Basin, which are operated by TotalEnergies and Petrobras, respectively.
Petronas also holds a stake in the Tartaruga Verde and Espadarte (Campos Basin) and Sepia (Santos Basin) fields.
